Recently, SYSU Department of History, Institute of Studies of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and Modern China Research Center jointly hosted a seminar on “Deepening and Expanding: New Historical Materials and New Approaches to Studies of Dr. Sun Yat-sen” on South Campus. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Secretary Zheng pointed out that Sun Yat-sen University, founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and named after him, is one of the closest links between overseas descendants of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and mainland China. With the indispensible mission, SYSU has always been an important academic center for Studies of Dr. Sun Yat-sen at home and abroad, and will further strengthen its support for the research team.
Over 40 experts and scholars from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangzhou attended the seminar, discussing the issue of deepening and expanding studies of Dr. Sun Yat-sen from the perspectives of digging and compiling new historical materials, and exploring and trying new research approaches.
A Compilation of Correspondence to Dr. Sun Yat-sen (10 volumes, Social Science Literature Press, 2012), chiefly compiled by SYSU Professor Sang Bing, attracted the attention of scholars and experts at the seminar, who all agreed that the publication of this series of documents is of great academic value to studies of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, his contemporaries and other related academic issues.
