SGP has cultivated five outstanding geographers in China’s geography circle. They are Prof. Lin Chao, Academician Zhou Tingru, Academician Zhou Lisan, Academician Huang Bingwei and Academician Zheng Du. “Bingwei Elite Class” is named after SYSU Alumnus Huang Bingwei, a famous geographer in China and the former Director of IGSNRR, CAS. In their speech at the signing ceremony, Assistant President Bao Jigang, Dean Liu Lin and Deputy Director Yu Guirui highly commend the cooperation mode between SGP and IGSNRR. They believe that such move is beneficial to promoting mutual communication and collaborative education, making full use of the intellectual resources and scientific and technological conditions of both sides, complementing each other’s strengths, improving the research and practice abilities of undergraduates, and exploring new cooperation mode between universities and research institutes to cultivate outstanding innovative talents.
According to the agreement, SGP will annually recommend to IGSNRR seven to eight junior undergraduates (including senior undergraduates of the five-year program) who are exempted from the MA or PhD entrance test to form “Bingwei Elite Class”. The students who pass joint scientific research training and selective reexamination will obtain the qualification to pursue master’s degree or doctoral degree at IGSNRR.
