Guangdong Provincial Research Base for Social Innovation Set up in SYSU

On November 22 and 23, the 2012 Guangdong Social Construction and Innovation Annual Meeting was held in Dongguan. Zhu Mingguo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Director of the Committee for Social Affairs of Guangdong Province, made a speech, and Liu Kun, Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province and Deputy Director of the Committee for Social Affairs of Guangdong Province, attended the meeting. More than 150 people, including the directors and full-time deputy directors of Committee for Social Affairs of above the prefecture-level cities and Shunde District, members of the Guangdong Provincial Social Innovation Consultative Committee, and experts and persons in charge from relevant colleges, universities and research institutions, took part in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Liang Weifa, Deputy Secretary of Party Leadership Group of Guangdong Provincial Government, Director General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department and Deputy Director of the Committee for Social Affairs of Guangdong Province. Yu Shiyou, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, and some members of the Social Innovation Consultative Committee, also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the provincial leaders awarded the plaques to five Guangdong Provincial Research Bases for Social Innovation, including Sun Yat-sen University. As a part of the “Guangdong Provincial Social Innovation Research Plan”, the Guangdong Research Bases for Social Innovation, jointly established by the Committee for Social Affairs of Guangdong Province and research units, give play to their advantages in academic research and talents, providing theoretical and intellectual support for the social construction of Guangdong Province.
In addition, the provincial leaders presented certificates of appointment to 42 members of the second Guangdong Provincial Social Innovation Consultative Committee, including 9 professors from SYSU, and they are (in alphabetical order of Pinyin of surnames) Professor Cai He, Professor Cai Lihui, Professor Li Zonggui, Professor Ma Guoqing, Professor Mu Yaping, Professor Shen Shuguang, Professor Yue Jinglun, Professor Zhou Chao and Professor Zhou Daming.
