The Final of the 2nd National College Students Oral History Achievements Exchange Contest Held in SYSU

"Youth•Memory: Interviews for the 90th Anniversary of the Communist Youth League” – The Final of the 2nd National College Students Oral History Achievements Exchange Contest, hosted by the Department of History of SYSU, was successfully held on December 8th. This exchange contest was another national academic extracurricular competition since the 1st contest was held in 2011. More than 30 pieces of entries of oral history achievements submitted by over 20 universities and colleges nationwide were received, and ultimately 10 teams from seven universities were promoted to the final, including Beijing Normal University , Nankai University, Capital Normal University, Guangxi Normal University, Hunan Normal University, South China Agricultural University and Sun Yat-sen University.

In the final, the chief judge was Professor ZUO Yuhe, Researcher of Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences , Secretary General of Chinese Oral History Research Society ; Professor WU Yixiong, Professor ZHAO Libin, Professor HE Wenping from SYSU, and Associate Professor HUANG Zhende from South China Normal University together formed the judging panel. Persons in charge of relevant SYSU functional departments such as QI Xiaoping, Director of Student Affairs Department of the SYSU Committee of the CPC; HUANG Shan, Secretary of SYSU Youth Association; YIN Xiaochuan, Deputy Director of University Dean’s office; ZHU Zhihui, Deputy Director of Publicity Department of the SYSU Committee of the CPC were in the attendance at the final of the contest.


The Q & A session
 
In the final, each team gave a presentation and oral defense. After the judging panel’s careful deliberation, one 1st Prize winner, three 2nd Prize winners and six 3rd Prize winners were decided, and three contesting teams from SYSU were all awarded the 3rd Prize.

Professor ZUO Yuhe made brilliant comments on the submitted entries, and delivered a lecture entitled “Current Situation, Problems and Experience of Oral History Research in China”. He had in-depth communication with members of the contesting teams and teachers and students from the Department of History.

After the competition, members of the contesting teams and instructors from across the country also visited SYSU campuses, Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Nan Yue Kingdom Palace Museum, the former site of the Huangpu Military Academy, enriching their understanding of Chinese modern and contemporary history and Sun Yat-sen University.

National College Students Oral History Achievements Exchanging Contest aims at further exploring an effective mode of practical teaching for college students, providing an exchange platform for undergraduate students from various colleges and universities. The Department of History of SYSU will continue to actively support this competition.
