Professor Xiong Minghui has been appointed as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Argumentation: An International Journal on Reasoning. Prof. Xiong is a professor of logic in the Department of Philosophy and a professor of jurisprudence in the School of Law at Sun Yat-sen University, and he serves as Vice Director of the Institute of Logic and Cognition (ILC), which is a Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences supported by the Ministry of Education of China. Argumentation, which has been published by Springer since 1987 and is cited by SSCI and A&HCI, is one of the top two journals (the other is Informal Logic) in the fields of informal logic and argumentation theory all over the world. Its Editor-in-Chief is Professor Frans van Eemeren, who is the Chair of the International Society for the Study of Argumentation (ISSA), the emeritus dean of the Department of Speech Communication, Argumentation Theory and Rhetoric at the University of Amsterdam, and the founder of Pragma-Dialectic School. Each member of the editorial board is a top scholar in the field of informal logic or argumentation theory.

In 2012 the Editor-in-Chief reappointed its editorial board members. The reorganized board consists of nineteen experts, including eight from the U.S., three from Holland, three from Canada, one from China, one from France, one from Portugal, one from Switzerland, and one from Austria. Actually, Prof. Xiong has been the only Chinese and the only scholar from non-American and non-European countries in this board up to now. The fact that Prof. Xiong was appointed shows that the influence of informal logic and argumentation theory at SYSU has been highly approved by international counterparts.
