This year’s project approval work of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and the National Major Scientific Research Program (NMSRP) has ended. SYSU has three new chief scientists of the 973 Program and the NMSRP, who are Professor Yu Siyuan and Professor Yang Guowei from School of Physics & Engineering, and Professor Yang Song from School of Environmental Science and Engineering.
It is learned that 1,052 projects have applied for the 973 Program and the NMSRP this year, and after three rounds of appraisal, 163 of them get funded, with the funding rate at 15.5%. Seven projects from Guangdong province are approved. A total of ten projects in the fields of sciences and engineering at SYSU applied for the funding and three of them are granted, with the funding rate at 30%.
In addition, SYSU has also gained the first Class A Project of the 973 Program and the NMSRP in Guangdong province this year. It is a major scientific research program in the field of protein research, with Professor Xu Anlong of the School of Life Sciences as its chief scientist. By now, SYSU has a total of 19 projects funded by the 973 Program and the NMSRP.
