Sound bites
"Many Chinese today have a deep understanding and knowledge of the West, even though most of them don’t have a chance to go to the West. Still, in the West, many people don’t have enough understanding of China. We need more works of Chinese culture and literature being translated into Western languages, not only English, but French and German. It’s important for more Confucius Institutes to be set up in the world to promote Chinese language and culture.”
THIERRY MEYNARD, a French scholar who studies philosophical encounters between China and the West and a philosophy professor at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou.
