The First “Marine Sharing” Mock International Conference held at SYSU

On the morning of April 24, 2016, the First “Marine Sharing” Mock International Conference was held on the East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) at Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. The conference was hosted by the Student Affairs Office of SYSU, and was organized by the Graduate Student Union of School of Marine Sciences of SYSU.
With a purpose to promote the disciplinary exchanges and development, the conference themed on “marine sciences and development” had two parallel sessions: Marine Organisms and Mineral Resources, and Researches on Marine Dynamics Process and Sedimentary Geomorphology. Following the standards of the international conference, the participants made Poster Presentations and Oral Presentations in English.

The conference invited Prof. Wang Jianghai, Prof. Gong Wenping, Prof. Liu Lan, Associate Professor Liu Weiliang and Lecturer Yang Jinpeng from School of Marine Sciences, as well as Lecturer Liu Songjie from School of Communication and Design as scoring judges. They made comments and suggestions on the oral presentations. Six students with top scores were selected for the Excellence Award. The awarded students included Xiao Xi, Wang Sheng, Yan Muting, Ye Zhihao, Fang Zhidong and Hu Mengxi.
Dr. Chen Shengping, Party Secretary of School of Marine Sciences, and Prof. Sun Xiaoming, Deputy Dean of School of Marine Sciences, attended the closing ceremony and presented awards to the winning students. Prof. Sun Xiaoming made a speech and expressed heartfelt thanks to the teachers and students. He hoped that postgraduate students would seize more opportunities to participate in international conferences and offered them some suggestions.
At the tea break and lunch time, the participants shared their experiences with each other in a warm atmosphere. The conference not only served as a platform for academic exchanges among SYSU postgraduate students, but also helped them understand the process of international conference.
