The Number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC has ranked 2nd among universities nationwide for 3 consecutive years

On August 16, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the evaluation results of the 2019 programs during the centralized reception period. 986 projects from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) are granted by NSFC, ranking 2nd among universities nationwide. Since 2017, SYSU has kept the second place in the same period for the third consecutive year. In 2019, SYSU submitted 4,023 proposals to NSFC during the centralized reception period, ranking third among universities in China.

In 2019, the number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC under the categories of both General Program and Young Scientists Fund is ranked 2nd among universities in China. Among them, 493 projects of General Program (an increase of 17.94% than last year) with funding of 282 million yuan; and 445 projects of Young Scientists Fund (up 12.37% than last year) with funding of 101 million yuan. Up till now, the number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC increased by 13.20% compared with the same period in 2018, with approved funding of 460 million yuan, ranking fourth among universities nationwide.

In addition, the talent projects and key projects remain a good momentum. In 2019, NSFC has granted SYSU with 15 projects of Excellent Young Scientists Fund; 14 projects of Key Program, 4 projects of Key International (Regional) Joint Research Program. The result of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars has not been officially released yet.
