Number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC in 2018 ranks 2nd among universities nationwide

On August 16, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the evaluation results of 2018 programs. 871 projects from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) are granted by NSFC, ranking 2nd among universities nationwide; and the approved funding reaches 450 million yuan, ranking 3rd among universities nationwide.

In 2018, the number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC under the categories of both General Program and Young Scientists Fund is ranked among the top of universities in China: 418 projects of General Program with funding of 243 million yuan, ranking 3rd among universities nationwide; and 396 projects of Young Scientists Fund with funding of 91 million yuan, ranking 2nd among universities nationwide.

In 2018, SYSU has 1 project granted by NSFC under the category of Science Fund for Creative Research Groups (Professor Su Chengyong from School of Chemistry); 1 project of Major Program (Academician Chen Xiaoming from School of Chemistry); 1 project of Special Fund for Research on National Major Research Instruments (Free Application) (Professor Zheng Rongqin from The Third Affiliated Hospital); 17 projects of Key Program; and 10 projects of Excellent Young Scientists Fund.

In 2018, SYSU submitted 3,521 proposals to NSFC during the centralized reception period, ranking 2nd among universities in China, an increase of 17.41% over the same period of 2017. Up till now, the number of SYSU projects granted by NSFC increased by 5.1% and the approved funding increased by 11.3% over the same period of 2017.
