Center for Teaching Development holds "Masterclass workshops on innovative pedagogies and curriculum design"

To improve educational teaching level and professional practical ability of faculty members, the Center for Teaching Development at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), together with Advance HE held the workshop called "Masterclass workshops on innovative pedagogies and curriculum design" on Guangzhou South Campus of SYSU on May 25-28, 2018. The workshop was led by Kathy Wright who is the Associate Head of Academic and Professional Development (International Programmes) at Advance HE. Teachers from different disciplines whose teaching experience varies have successfully completed the course.


The workshop

Sessions were workshop style with short interactive presentations and small group activities. Each group was composed of participants from different schools for better mutual learning and communicating. The teaching skills workshop consists of sessions covering: analyses on how modern students study, curriculum design, learning taxonomies, teaching assessment and feedback, relationship between research and teaching, signature pedagogies and threshold concepts, and modern education technology and so forth. Various forms of teaching interaction such as group discussion, hand-crafting, and games concerning all participants and the lecturer were conducted throughout the workshop. After the four-day course, participants were awarded a certificate distributed by the Center for Teaching Development and Advance HE.

The workshop received much positive feedback from participants. For more teachers of SYSU to benefit from the teaching development activities, the Center for Teaching Development will organize the second Masterclass workshop in early July.
