The 6th Asian Network of GIS-based Historical Studies Conference (ANGIS 2017) held at Sun Yat-sen University

The Asian Network of GIS-based Historical Studies (ANGIS) was first organized by Professor Tsukasa Mizushima at the University of Tokyo. Then it was held in one of the Asian cities once a year. The ANGIS conference has been held for 5 times. It is of academic significance that ANGIS is held in Mainland China for the first time.

The ANGIS focuses on Asian history and aims to promote multidisciplinary approaches in tracing spatial and temporal processes. This conference organized by the Centre for Historical Geography of Sun Yat-sen University with the topic of “New Stage of GIS-based Asian Studies” will continue to serve as a venue for sharing research progress in historical studies in Asia based on GIS in the fields of history, geography, heritage studies, spatial analysis and modeling, visualization, and GIS. We hope these efforts would contribute to generating new perspectives and stimulating deeper explorations in historical research.
