Three SYSU Research Achievements Win 2016 State Science and Technology Awards

On January 9, 2017, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. CPC and State leaders attended the Conference and presented award certificates to representatives of the winners.

The 2016 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, State Natural Sciences Award, State Technology Invention Award, State Science and Technology Progress Award, and International Science and Technology Cooperation Award were conferred at the conference.
As the primary research unit at which the research project was undertaken and completed, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) won 3 State Science and Technology Awards in 2016. The three awards are as follows: second prize in the State Natural Sciences Award for the project “The Theory of Ricci Flow and Its Geometric Applications”, undertaken by the research team of Professor Zhu Xiping from the School of Mathematics; second prize in the State Science and Technology Progress Award for the project “The key technical innovation and application of rectal cancer treatment based on the anal function and sexual function protection”, undertaken by the research team of Professor Wang Jianping from The Sixth Affiliated Hospital; and second prize in the State Science and Technology Progress Award for the project “The innovation and application of individualized treatment in colorectal cancer”, undertaken by the research team of Professor Xu Ruihua from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.
SYSU was the primary research unit for three 2016 State Science and Technology Award-winning projects, which, according to statistics compiled by the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education, ranked 9th among universities nationwide.
The 2016 State Science and Technology Awards were presented to 279 scientific projects, seven scientists and one international organization. There were 2 recipients of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award; 1 first prize and 41 second prizes of the State Natural Sciences Award; 3 first prize and 63 second prizes of the State Technology Invention Award; 2 grand prizes, 20 first prizes and 149 second prizes of the State Science and Technology Progress Award. Five foreign scientists and one international organization received the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
