A Research Project of the First Affiliated Hospital Funded by US Baxter’s Renal Discoveries Extramural Grant Program
The evaluation result for the U.S Baxter’s Renal Discoveries Extramural Grant Program has been announced. A joint project concerning peritoneal dialysis by professors Yang Xiao, Jiang Zhongpei, and Yu Xueqing from the Department of Nephrology Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital, “Pathogenesis of Peritoneal Dialysis-related Escherichia Coli Peritonitis”, got favorable comments by experts and gained the sponsoring with $375000 for a duration of three years (2010-2012).
The U.S Baxter’s Renal Discoveries Extramural Grant Program is a world renowned science fund respecting kidney Disease Research. It provides financial assistance to 4 projects every year with a particular care for researches on “Replacement therapy for Mid-final stage nephrotic syndorme as well as prophylaxis and treatment for relevant complications”. After going through strict reviews conducted by the senior experts from the EGP Independent Medicine Consultative Committee, the research project on peritoneal dialysis by the Department of Nephrology Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital stood out in the competition among the 63 programs, including those from the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, HongKong and others this year becoming one of the 4 selected programmes in 2009. This research will reveal the occurrence and development mechanism of the Pathogenesis of Peritoneal Dialysis-related Escherichia Coli Peritonitis from tow aspects , that is, from bacteria genes , serum & virulence typing and intra-abdominal local immune defense mechanism respectively. Meanwhile, In accordence with this reaserch, a series of Prevention and Control strategies will be made to promote the medical level in preventing and treating peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis.
