From December 20 to 22, the 20th National Academic Annual Conference of Chinese Urological Association (CUA) was held in Beijing. Prof. Huang Jian from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital was elected as the Chairman-elect of the Tenth Chinese Urological Association Committee.
For many years, Prof. Huang Jian has been dedicating himself to the basic and clinical research of bladder cancer, prostate cancer, etc. He has also been engaged in the innovation, application and promotion of the minimal-invasive techniques in the treatment of urological diseases. He took the lead in performing many high challenging laparoscopic surgeries including laparoscopic radical cystectomy, a variety of single-port laparoscopic surgeries, and a variety of 3D-laparoscopic urological surgeries. Due to his great contribution to the cause of development of Urology in China, Prof. Huang Jian was awarded the Wu Jieping Medical Science Award in Urology in 2012, which is the highest honorary award in Urology in China. The international famous urological expert Prof. Urs E. Studer praised that, “Prof. Jian Huang is the leading expert in the field for laparoscopic radical cystectomy (LRC), he was a pioneer not only in China, but also in worldwide”.
In recent years, the urology team of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital has achieved fruitful results under Prof. Huang Jian’s leadership. They have won twelve Funds from Natural Science Foundation of China (one key project), the National Health Industry Public Welfare Fund Projects, and the Ministry of Health Clinical Key Projects, etc. They have published more than forty SCI articles in many international famous journals including
European Urology,
International Journal of Cancer,
British Journal of Cancer, etc. They have published the monographs of
Minimally Invasive Urological Surgery, and have also taken the lead in formulating many urological standards and national guidelines, such as
Standardized Tutorial of Urological Minimal Invasive Techniques, and
The 2014 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Bladder Cancer in China. Their research achievements have obtained the First Prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education of Scientific Research in 2009, and the First Prize of the Guangdong Technology Advancement Award in 2012. The Urology Department was granted the State Key Clinical Department and the Key Medical Department in Guangdong in 2012.
