In the Games, SYSU athletes earned 3 silver and 5 bronze medals through their great efforts: Shen Chong won a silver in men’s 4x200m freestyle relay in the first division, a silver in men’s 4x100m medley relay and a bronze in men’s 50m backstroke; Xu Lili won bronze in women’s 4x100m freestyle relay in the second division; Zhuo Xiaojun won silver in women’s pole vault in the first division; Qin Jian won the third and fourth place respectively in men’s 4×400m relay and men’s 4×100m relay. They won 1093.5 points for Guangdong delegation and 96 points for our university. SYSU was awarded the "President Cup" of the Ninth University Games.

The competition for the “President Cup” included three parts: the competition results of the athletes in the Games, the prizes won by the teachers in the scientific paper seminar of the Games, and the self assessments offered by the universities about their work in physical education. On the basis of application and self appraisal, preliminarily evaluations were conducted by the provincial education departments, and the final winners were selected by the organizing committee during the Games. This is the fourth time SYSU has won the “President Cup” since it won the first three in 2000, 2004 and 2007.
