ZHUHAI, Oct, 23 (Xinhua) --- Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Sun Yat-sen University on October 22nd, planning to develop in-depth cooperation in talent cultivation, industry-university-research alliance and scientific innovation between both sides.

Thirteen years ago, the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University was founded, creating educational conditions for over ten thousand students to study and live there. “Initiated by this action, the SYSU—Zhuhai Mode opened up a new way for famous universities to cooperate with local governments, thus gaining national influence and fruitful cooperative achievements,” said He Ningka, Mayor of Zhuhai.

According to the agreement, Zhuhai and SYSU are to cooperate in talent cultivation, industry-university-research alliance and scientific innovation. Zhuhai will spare no effort to support the development of SYSU from the aspects of policies, talents and educational conditions. Meanwhile, SYSU will link its discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research and social service to the general development strategy of Zhuhai and take account of Zhuhai’s practical demands in the construction of talent cultivation bases, key disciplines, key laboratories and professional degrees.

According to Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, there are already six schools on SYSU Zhuhai Campus with international education characteristics. With the signing of the agreement, SYSU will make more effort in the close cooperation between both sides and make greater contributions to Zhuhai’s construction of a core city on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary, a modern industrial system of “Three Highs & One Special”(high-end manufacturing, high-end services, high-tech industries, and characteristic marine economy and ecoagriculture), and other major projects; to enrich cooperative modes, broaden cooperative channels and improve service functions to give full play to the role of the university as a “think-tank” ; to achieve concrete effectiveness and serve the local community.
