On October 23, a Teach-in for “Beautiful China” University Students Photography & Mini Film Contest was held on East Campus. The event was hosted by SYSU Youth Association and undertaken by Student Union of SYSU and Student Union of the School of Communication and Design. As a special guest, LIU Ke, Director of Audio and Video Department, Nanfang Metropolis Daily participated in the event.
In order to encourage participation in the contest, the host first played a publicity video “I Have a Dream”, and shared two submitted works of excellence. Three outstanding mini films created by SYSU students, “Primitive Colors”,”3C” and “Next Stop, Higher Education Mega Center N. ” were also displayed on the spot and the three directors were invited to come onto the platform to share what they’d learned from this experience.
During the interactive sharing session, which is the most attractive, Director Liu Ke couldn’t help marveling at the three original mini films by students, saying that it’s a great spiritual feast. He highly praised the student works and pointed out the significance of film plots---“to grab the attention of audience as well as to create and satisfy their feeling of anticipation”. At the same time, the enthusiastic audience raised lots of questions with Mr. Liu and the three student directors referring to the problems they ran into when studying how to make mini films and engaged themselves in heated discussions over issues such as how to make up a team, whether mini films will be commercialized in the future and how to censor them.
The teach-in attracted participation of many students interested in mini film producing. A student from the School of Engineering says: "I would make some videos in my spare time and I come here to get to know how to draw inspiration from life.” At the end of the teach-in, the host offered relevant information about the upcoming contest, providing a prologue to the photography and mini-film contest.
