Bronze Statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Dedication Ceremony Held on East Campus

On the morning of 12th November, which is the 146th anniversary of the birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and 88th anniversary of the founding of Sun Yat-sen University, the dedication ceremony of the bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was held on the East Campus square. This marked the moment when all four campuses had a bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen which symbolizes the SYSU spirit.

The ceremony was presided over by Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, and Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President, Xu Jiarui, Executive Vice President, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, representative of statue donor Mr. Ma Man Kei, member of the CPPCC Hubei Committee and President of Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, Mr. and Mrs. Ma Iao Iao, family representatives of Mr. Ma Man Kei, Prof. Lin Jiayou and Prof. Qiu Jie, experts of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Studies, heads of functional departments and nearly 600 faculty and student representatives attended the ceremony.
Amidst the solemn music performed by the Armed Police Corps of Guangdong Province, the flag team of national defense students escorted the national flag and the university flag in and held a solemn flag-raising ceremony. Executive Vice President Xu Jiarui and Mr. Ma Iao Hang presented flower baskets on behalf of Sun Yat-sen University and Mr. Ma Man Kei respectively. All faculty members and students bowed to pay their respects.
Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng expressed gratitude for the generous donation of Mr. Ma Man Kei in his address and hoped that students of SYSU should remember Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s teachings, shoulder the expectations of the nation and the people and strive to make SYSU a world class institution as soon as possible. In his speech, Mr. Ma Iao Hang mentioned that Mr. Ma Man Kei had close links with Sun Yat-sen University. He thanked the University for its support for Macau’s medical work and expressed his love for the country while the 18th National Congress of CPC was underway.
In the music played by the military band, all attendees stood up and faculty and students sang the University song. Finally all attendees paid their respects to the statue one by one in queue and the ceremony was completed successfully.
