On August 26, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) welcomed new students on Guangzhou South Campus, Guangzhou North Campus, Guangzhou East Campus, and Zhuhai Campus. SYSU’s 45 schools and departments enrolled 15,057 students this year. Secretary Chen Chunsheng, President Luo Jun, Vice President Yan Guangmei, and Vice President Li Mengfeng respectively inspected the registration work.
The Student Affairs Office learned about the family income levels of new students through telephone calls, the “freshman” system and new media platforms. “Registration packages” are offered to students from low income families, who will also receive support from the special projects at SYSU for their comprehensive development.
The University Logistics Office used the summer holiday time to check teaching facilities, refurnish student dormitories, upgrade hot water systems, improve restaurant facilities, trim branches and lay turfs.

This year eight new schools and departments are established on Zhuhai Campus: Department of Chinese (Zhuhai), Department of History (Zhuhai), Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai), School of International Relations, School of Mathematics (Zhuhai), School of Physics and Astronomy, School of Atmospheric Sciences, and School of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The freshmen add more energy to Zhuhai Campus.
This year the first group of freshmen, who are enrolled in the medical school of Shenzhen Campus, registered together with the freshmen of Zhongshan School of Medicine. They will study in Zhongshan School of Medicine for two years before moving to Shenzhen Campus.
