The graduation season of Sun Yat-sen University officially started on June 19. The schools and affiliated hospitals held postgraduate graduation ceremonies and degree ceremonies successively. The professors read Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s graduation precept — “for the welfare of the society, for the glory of the country”, expressed their expectations, and taught the last lesson to the students before their graduation.

YAT-SEN School
On the morning of June 25, the YAT-SEN School held the 2019 graduation ceremony in 101 Lecture Room of Fong Shing Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. SYSU Vice President Li Shanmin, YAT-SEN School Deputy Dean Wang Qiru, School of Physics Deputy Dean Yao Daoxin, School of Chemistry Deputy Dean Zhu Fang, School of Life Sciences Deputy Dean Xiang Hui, School of Mathematics Assistant Dean Wang Xueqin, School of Data and Computer Science Assistant Dean Li Lvzhou, supervisor representatives, the students of the “Pilot Program for Training Outstanding Students in Basic Sciences” of the Ministry of Education, and the “Boya Education Program” and the “Outstanding Law and Political Science Talent Education Program” of Sun Yat-sen university attended the ceremony.

The graduation ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Vice President Li Shanmin extended warm congratulations to the 127 students who have completed the three outstanding talent programs. He hoped the students could link the realization of their own value with the development of the country, and become leaders in their fields.

The students went onto the stage in turn. Vice President Li Shanmin and Deputy Dean Wang Qiru presented the certificates to the students and shook hands with them.
Professor Zhang Yan gave a speech as the supervisor representative. She recalled some details of the students’ study at SYSU, and hoped they would remain true to the original aspirations and strive forward.

At the end of the ceremony, all faculty and students sang the university anthem. Cancer Center
On the afternoon of June 25, the Cancer Center held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the International Conference Hall of the Cancer Center. The Cancer Center’s Director Xu Ruihua, Secretary Wu Shaoxin, Executive Deputy Director Ma Jun, Deputy Secretary He Yun, Deputy Director Zeng Musheng, Deputy Director Peng Wangqing, Deputy Director Liu Zhuowei, and supervisor representatives witnessed the memorable moment together.
The ceremony was presided over by Secretary Wu Shaoxin. He led all graduates to sing the national anthem. He read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence in clinical work and climb summits in scientific exploration.

Secretary Wu Shaoxin announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees. Director Xu Ruihua presented graduation booklets and took photos with the master’s and doctoral graduates.

Director Xu Ruihua encouraged the students to be rooted in China in the new era, keep in mind the mission of saving people, saving the world and saving the country, cultivate moral character and make contributions to socialist modernization.

Afterwards, Executive Deputy Director Ma Jun led all graduates to recite the oath of a medical student.
Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center
On the afternoon of June 25, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the academic lecture hall of the Experiment Building in the Zhujiang New Town Division. The Center’s Director Liu Yizhi, Secretary Xia Dan, Professor Chi-Chao Chan from the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health, as well as the supervisors, friends and relatives of the graduates witnessed the unforgettable moment. Deputy Director Zhuo Yehong presided over the ceremony.
The graduation ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Deputy Director Zhuo Yehong read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees.


Director Liu Yizhi conferred the degree to every recipient. The graduates went onto the stage in turn, full of joy and excitement.

Director Liu Yizhi expressed his expectations for the 2019 graduates: being determined to become a doctor means to become a kind person who loves the country, the Party and the people; looking up at the starry sky and having long-term vision; and taking a down-to-earth approach to accomplish everything.

The supervisor representative Professor Wei Lai hoped the graduates would find what they love to do and live a successful life.
At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Director Zhuo Yehong led all graduates to recite the oath of a medical student.

The Third Affiliated Hospital
On the afternoon of June 24, The Third Affiliated Hospital held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony in the Lecture Hall on the 20th floor of the Comprehensive Building at the Hospital. The Hospital’s President Rong Limin, Honorary President Chen Guihua and officiating professors took seats on the stage. The Hospital’s Secretary Qiu Guoxin, Deputy Secretary Zhao Wanwen attended the ceremony. The supervisor representatives, graduates and their friends and relatives, a total of nearly 300 people witnessed the beautiful moment. The ceremony was presided over by the Hospital’s Vice President Wei Hongbo.

Vice President Wei Hongbo announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees. President Rong Limin presented the graduation booklet to every graduate.
Professor Chong Yutian gave a speech as the supervisor representative. He hoped the students would look into the future with the goal of “curing the disease, the body and the heart, saving the people, the country and the world”, and never regret it because of squandering their time.

Secretary Qiu Guoxin delivered a speech and expressed five expectations for the graduates: work hard in the new era, be firm in our ideal and conviction, uphold the spirit of the scientists, carry forward the Hospital culture, and make contributions for the Healthy China strategy.

President Rong Limin put forward three requirements for the graduates: first, have compassion and remain true to the original aspirations; second, have perseverance, seek truth and be practical; third, cherish three kinds of wealth: healthy body, pure friendship and the Hospital culture.
Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology
At the noon of June 24, the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the postgraduate degree ceremony in the Lecture Hall of the Library on Zhuhai Campus./

The ceremony was co-hosted by the Chinese Dean Wang Biao and the French Dean Jean-Marie BOURGEOIS-DEMERSAY. The 2019 undergraduate and postgraduate students, some parents, as well as faculty and staff of the Institute attended the ceremony.

The ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Deputy Secretary Xu Yao read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. All graduates rose to listen to the graduation precept.

Dean Wang Biao delivered a speech. He said it was the first time for the Institute to hold the postgraduate degree ceremony, which would leave a beautiful and unforgettable memory for the students. He welcomed the graduates to come back to visit the Institute in the future.

Deputy Dean Ma Xianfeng announced the decision to confer academic master’s degrees, and Assistant Dean Kang Mingliang announced the decision to confer professional master’s degrees and CTI certificates. The master’s graduates in their degree gowns went onto the stage in turn. Chinese Dean Wang Biao and French Dean Jean-Marie BOURGEOIS-DEMERSAY jointly presented the master’s degree certificates and the CTI certificates to the graduates, and took photos with them. At the degree ceremony, Dean Wang Yuejun delivered a speech. He hoped the students will love our motherland and achieve success in their work and study, continue to care about the alma mater’s development, and come back to visit the School.

The supervisor representative Associate Professor Gao Yan expressed her hope that the students would remain true to the original aspirations and make unremitting efforts to improve themselves.

Academician Zhang Peizhen and Academician Gao Rui expressed best wishes to the graduates, and hoped the students would make great achievements in their respective fields.

Afterwards, the School also held the appointment ceremony of alumni council members, and commended authors of the excellent master’s thesis and the excellent doctoral dissertation, as well as outstanding undergraduate students.
School of Marine Sciences
On the morning of June 25, the School of Marine Sciences held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the 2019 degree ceremony in the Swasey Hall on Guangzhou South Campus.
The ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Deputy Dean Zou Shichun read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The graduates rose to listen and replied “obey the instructions”. Afterwards, Deputy Dean Zou Shichun announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees.　

The supervisor representative Professor Liu Lan hoped the graduates would have a mind as broad as the sea, lead the trend, strive forward and never give up.

Secretary Chen Xingping hoped the graduates would have an active attitude, aim high, strive forward, work hard to find the truth and value of life as well as happiness.
Department of Chinese
On the afternoon of June 25, the Department of Chinese held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the postgraduate degree ceremony in 105 of the Department of Chinese Building on Guangzhou South Campus. The 2019 graduates, faculty and staff, friends and relatives attended the ceremony, and witnessed the unforgettable moment. The Department’s Deputy Secretary Luo Gankun presided over the ceremony.
The graduation ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Professor Peng Yuping, Head of the Department of Chinese, delivered a speech. He extended warm congratulations to the graduates and sincere gratitude to the parents and teachers. Quoting the great poet Su Shi, he encouraged the students to become strong and face the difficulties with a bright heart.

The supervisor representative Professor Huang Shizhong hoped the students would be brave to taste the sweets and bitters of life, shoulder social responsibilities, and remain true to the original aspirations in their work and study in the future.

Professor Zhang Jun announced the university’s decision of conferring bachelor’s degrees. Professor Peng Yuping and the supervisors presented the degree certificates to the bachelor’s students.
