The graduation season of Sun Yat-sen University officially started on June 19. The schools and affiliated hospitals held postgraduate graduation ceremonies and degree ceremonies successively. The 2019 graduates of SYSU will keep Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s words in mind — “for the welfare of the society and for the glory of the country”, serve the country, and strive to realize the Chinese dream.

School of Physics and Astronomy
On the afternoon of June 24, the School of Physics and Astronomy held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the postgraduate degree ceremony in the 917 Lecture Hall of the Administration Building on Zhuhai Campus. The School’s Dean Lin Weipeng, Secretary Hao Yajuan, Executive Deputy Director of the TianQin Research Center for Gravitational Physics Tu Liangcheng, more than 10 supervisors, 10 postgraduates, some student representatives, as well as relatives and friends attended the ceremony. The Schoo’s Deputy Secretary Yin Min presided over the ceremony.

Secretary Hao Yajuan read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. She hoped the students would keep in mind Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s expectations, aim high, and make contributions to the country and the society. Then, Secretary Hao Yajuan announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees.

The postgraduate student Liao Fangjie gave a speech on behalf of all graduates. She expressed gratitude to the teachers, saying that in the past three years, she has learned analyzing and thinking, cooperation and competition, inheritance and innovation. She will further her study as a doctoral candidate at the School.

Dean Lin Weipeng hoped the students would practice the university motto, and keep the university’s goal of talent cultivation in mind, be active and take the lead, make progress step by step, and become pillars of the country and elites of the society.

International School of Business & Finance
On the morning of June 25, the International School of Business & Finance held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and degree ceremony as well as the 2019 graduation celebration conference on Zhuhai Campus. The School’s Dean Huang Xinfei, Deputy Secretary (presiding over the work) Peng Zhigang, Deputy Dean Zhang Xuezhi, Deputy Secretary Jin Xiangpeng, 2019 graduates and some parents attended the event.

The graduation ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Peng Zhigang read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. All graduates rose to listen and replied “obey the instructions”. Afterwards, Peng Zhigang announced the university’s decision to confer master’s degrees.
The 2019 graduation celebration conference started with the promotional video and the graduation video. The videos showed the School’s development in recent years, and the valuable moments of the students' study and life at the School.

Dean Huang Xinfei delivered a speech. He stressed that the students are the biggest wealth of the School. He introduced the excellent deeds of the graduates, and encouraged the students to persevere and practice to realize their ideals.

The 2019 undergraduate representative Zhou Zixun gave a speech. He recalled the four years of campus life and expressed gratitude to the University, the School and the teachers.
Finally, the school leaders and teachers sent their best wishes to the 2019 graduates. They hoped the graduates would make achievements in their journey ahead, and the teachers would wait for them to come back to visit the School.

Lingnan College
On the morning of June 25, the Lingnan College held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the Ip Po-ting Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. The College’s Dean Lu Jun, Secretary Huang Shan, Deputy Dean Zhang Bin, Deputy Secretary Haung Tao, Assistant Dean Wu Jintao, supervisor representatives, nearly 500 master’s and doctoral graduates as well as their friends and relatives attended the ceremony. Assistant Dean Wu Jintao presided over the ceremony.

Assistant Dean Wu Jintao announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degree, and invited Dean Lu Jun to confer degrees to the recipients. The graduates went onto the stage in turn, and Dean Lu Jun turned the tassels for them.

The student representative Yang Hui gave a speech. She recalled some details of the study at Lingnan College, and thanked the University and Lingnan College for providing the students with an open stage for development.

Dean Lu Jun pointed out in his speech that in the past 30 years under the leadership of the University and with the support of the alumni, Lingnan College has become an outstanding economics and business school with bigger influence at home and abroad. He hoped the students would carry forward the spirit and cultural tradition of the University and the College, meet the challenges, keep on learning and serve the society.

Department of Physical Education
On the morning of June 25, the Department of Physical Education held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the meeting room of the Department building on Guangzhou South Campus. The Department’s Secretary Ling Chunxian, Deputy Director Zhang Xinping, Deputy Secretary Qiu Yabin, professors and associate professors of the supervisor team, teachers, alumni and parents attended the ceremony.

Secretary Ling Chunxian announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s degrees. Deputy Director Zhang Xinping presented degree certificates and graduation booklets to the two master’s students from the Department of Physical Education.
Deputy Director Zhang Xinping gave a speech. She extended congratulations to the two students and affirmed their outstanding performance. She hoped the students would keep in mind the university motto and become high quality sports talents.

School of International Relations
On June 26, the School of International Relations held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in Lingnan Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. Professor Takeshi Hamashita, world renowned scholar and former director of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Sun Yat-sen University; the School’s Secretary Ren Hong, Deputy Dean Niu Junkai, Professor Fan Ruolan and supervisors attended the ceremony. The School’s Deputy Secretary Chen Jun presided over the ceremony.

Secretary Ren Hong announced the university’s decision of conferring doctoral and master’s degrees and the decision to commend excellent doctoral dissertation and excellent master’s thesis. Deputy Dean Niu Junkai conferred degrees to the doctoral and master’s graduates.

Deputy Dean Niu Junkai delivered a speech on behalf of the School. He extended congratulations to the graduates, and hoped the graduates would become academic and business leaders with global vision, strategic wisdom and sense of responsibility.

The master’s student Su Hongliang gave a speech. He expressed gratitude to the supervisors and teachers, and he hoped the students would love and support the School, and write a new chapter in their lives.

School of Public Health
On the morning of June 26, the School of Public Health held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the Boxue Hall on the 15th floor of the Science and Technology Building on Guangzhou North Campus. The School’s Secretary Han Ling, Dean Hao Yuantao, Deputy Secretary Wang Lixia, Deputy Dean Lu Ciyong, as well as eight department directors, supervisors and the graduates’ friends and relatives attended the ceremony. The School’s Deputy Dean Xia Min presided over the ceremony.

Deputy Dean Xia Min announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees.

Dean Hao Yuantao led the students to recite the school’s motto. He hoped the students would safeguard public health with time and patience, and improve the health of the people and the quality of life.
The 2019 doctoral graduate Fan Jiahua gave a speech on behalf of the graduates. She shared her beautiful memories, saying that the biggest gain during her study for the doctoral degree was to make outstanding friends, discover her own potentials, and make unremitting efforts to strive forward.

At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Dean Xia Min led the graduates to recite the oath of a medical student.

Department of Philosophy
On the afternoon of June 26, the Department of Philosophy held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the 2019 postgraduate degree ceremony in Xichang Building on Guangzhou South Campus. The Department’s Director Zhang Wei, Secretary Chen Xianfeng, members of the academic degree committee, officiating professors, teacher representatives, the 2019 graduates and their relatives and friends attended the ceremony. Associate Professor Shen Yuping presided over the ceremony.

The supervisor representative Professor Chen Shaoming gave a speech. He expressed best wishes to the graduates on behalf of all teachers at the Department. He invited the students to come back to attend a class in 20 years. Graduation is a new starting point, and study is a lifelong cause.

The doctoral graduate Ruan Yuchun gave a speech as the student representative. She said studying philosophy is a happy thing, and she would carry forward SYSU’s fine tradition, link herself with the country and the society, and draw the future with the quality of a philosopher.
School of Intelligent Systems Engineering
On the afternoon of June 26, the School of Intelligent Systems Engineering held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in B403 of the School of Engineering Building on Guangzhou East Campus. The School’s Secretary Ouyang Kequan, Deputy Dean (presiding over the work) Cai Ming, Deputy Dean Tan Xiaojun, Deputy Secretary Huang Dafeng, all supervisors and the 2019 graduates attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Deputy Dean Tan Xiaojun.

Deputy Dean Cai Ming delivered a speech. He extended sincere congratulations to the graduates and expressed three expectations: first, keep on reading, studying, innovating and improving, apply the theories and methods to analyze and solve the problems; step out of one’s comfort zone and pursue higher goals; third, keep in line with the development of the country and follow the trends of the era.
The graduate representative Chen Xinyu gave a speech. He thanked the teachers for their great efforts in establishing the School. Artificial intelligence and traditional engineering are integrating and developing, which provide a lot of opportunities and challenges for the graduates. He hoped the students would remain true to the original aspirations and strive forward.

Secretary Ouyang Kequan delivered a speech and expressed three expectations for the graduates. First, manage time, study, body, mood and risk; second, have a clear understanding of “excellent” and “outstanding”, do not excessively blame oneself because of a setback; third, shoulder responsibilities for the people and the country, and take an active part in building our motherland.

The Eighth Affiliated Hospital
On the afternoon of June 26, The Eighth Affiliated Hospital held the 2019 degree ceremony in the meeting room on the 19th floor of the No. 2 Building at the Hospital. The Hospital’s Vice President Huang Hui announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s degree to Qin Haoling.
The Hospital’s President Shen Huiyong delivered a speech. He said it was a special day for the Hospital — Qin Haoling became the Hospital’s first master’s degree recipient, and it would be written in the history of the Hospital.

President Shen Huiyong encouraged Qin Haoling to remain true to the original aspirations, strive forward to fulfill the mission of a medical worker with actions and achievements.
School of Tourism Management
On June 27, the School of Tourism Management held the 2019 postgraduate degree ceremony on Guangzhou South Campus. The School’s founding Dean Professor Bao Jigang, present Dean Professor Xu Honggang, Secretary Lin Junhong, Deputy Dean Luo Qiuju, Deputy Dean He Mang, Deputy Secretary Li Hao, officiating professors, supervisors and parents attended the ceremony.

Professor Bao Jigang delivered a speech. He encouraged the graduates to become researchers and elites in the field, and keep lifelong learning with professional pursuit and social care.

Dr. Wu Wenjia gave a speech on behalf of all graduates. She shared some details of her study and thanked the teachers and students of the School. She hoped the graduates would carry forward the fine tradition of the School and make greater achievements.

Professor Bao Jigang and Professor Xu Honggang presented certificates to authors of the excellent doctoral dissertation and the excellent master’s thesis; Professor Bao Jigang presented certificates to supervisors of the excellent doctoral dissertation and the excellent master’s thesis Professor Xu Honggang and Professor Sun Jiuxia; Professor Bao Jigang and Professor Xu Honggang conferred degrees to the 2019 doctoral and master’s graduates.
