The graduation season of Sun Yat-sen University officially started on June 19. The schools and affiliated hospitals held postgraduate graduation ceremonies and degree ceremonies successively. The 2019 graduates of SYSU will keep Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s words in mind — “for the welfare of the society and for the glory of the country”, serve the country, and strive to realize the Chinese dream.

School of International Studies
On the afternoon of June 24, the School of International Studies held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the postgraduate degree ceremony in the new Gymnasium on Zhuhai Campus. The School’s Dean Chang Chenguang, Secretary Chen Youzhi, Deputy Dean Zhou Hui, the supervisors, the 2019 bachelor’s and master’s graduates, as well as their friends and relatives attended the ceremony. The School’s Deputy Secretary Huang Aicheng presided over the ceremony.

Dean Chang Chenguang delivered a speech. He put forward three suggestions to the graduates: be a good citizen, connect the world, tell the story of China, and serve the country and the people; be a good learner, as the famous linguist Halliday said “learning through language”, use language as a tool to acquire knowledge in other fields; be a healthy and happy person, love life, and have enthusiasm and confidence for life.

The graduate representative Zhang Luqi shared her story of studying for 7 years at the School. Her experience as a member of the graduate volunteer teaching team in Tibet enabled her to understand the sense of mission as a teacher.

The supervisor representative Associate Professor Fan Ruoen gave a speech. He hoped the graduates would keep in mind Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s precept, aim high and make greater achievements.

Secretary Chen Youzhi presented honor stoles to 13 outstanding bachelor’s graduates of the University. Dean Chang Chenguang presented certificates to 11 outstanding graduates of the School, and the graduation booklets to 67 master’s degree recipients.

School of Data and Computer Science
On the morning of June 25, the School of Data and Computer Science held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the Administration Building on Guangzhou East Campus. The School leaders, supervisor representatives, the 2019 graduates as well as their friends and relatives attended the ceremony. The School’s Secretary Xie Manhua presided over the ceremony.

The ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Secretary Xie Manhua read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. All graduates rose to listen and replied “obey the instructions”.
Deputy Dean Ma Xiao extended warm congratulations to the graduates and expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents. He encouraged the students to remain true to the original aspirations, link personal growth with the development of the country and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Accompanied by the music of “the mountain is high and the river is long”, the graduates went onto the stage in turn. Deputy Dean Ma Xiao presented the graduation booklet to every graduate.
School of Materials Science and Engineering
On the afternoon of June 25, the School of Materials Science and Engineering held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the Swasey Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. The School’s Dean Yang Guowei, Secretary Li Bojun, Deputy Secretary Liu Fang, members of the graduate education and degree committee, supervisor representatives, the 2019 graduates as well as their friends and relatives attended the graduation ceremony. Secretary Li Bojun presided over the ceremony.

Secretary Li Bojun read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. All graduates replied “obey the instructions”. Afterwards, he announced the university’s decision to confer doctoral and master’s degrees.

Dean Yang Guowei conferred the degree to every graduate.
The supervisor representative Professor Bao Dinghua gave a speech. He expressed three expectations for the graduates: continue to work hard for the country and the society on the new stage; graduation is a new starting point, try to maintain interest in study and learn from others; keep on exercising because the happy life can become longer with a healthy body.

The doctoral graduate representative Yan Jiahao expressed gratitude to the university and the professors. He said that study at SYSU has broadened his horizons, and the advanced research platform has provided opportunities and challenges for his study and research. He wished the alma mater a better future!
Guanghua School of Stomatology
On the afternoon of June 25, Guanghua School of Stomatology held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the conference center on the 9th floor of the Hospital of Stomatology. The school leaders, supervisor representatives, the 2019 graduates and their friends and relatives attended the ceremony. The School’s Deputy Dean Lin Zhengmei presided over the ceremony.

Deputy Dean Lin Zhengmei announced the university’s decision of conferring doctoral and master’s degrees. The officiating professors presented the degree certificates and took photos with the graduates.
The School’s Secretary Chen Wangnan presented certificates to the authors and supervisors of the excellent master’s thesis and the excellent doctoral dissertation; The School’s Faculty and Staff Union Chairman Chen Xiaohua, Deputy Secretary Xu Junqing, and Chief Accountant Jia Weihua presented awards to the master’s and doctoral graduates who have published high-level academic articles.

Professor Wei Xi gave a speech as the supervisor representative. She extended warm congratulations to the graduates, and encouraged them to keep the mission of a medical student in mind and draw a blueprint of “Healthy China” together.

The master’s graduate Wen Liling gave a speech, expressing sincere gratitude to the supervisors, students and parents. The doctoral graduate Yu Mei gave a speech, saying that she would continue to study and cure more patients with benevolence and professional skills.

After the ceremony, the School also held the graduation carnival. The graduates, supervisor representatives, friends and relatives took photos to record the beautiful moment.

Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai)
On the afternoon of June 28, the Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai) held the 2019 graduation ceremony and the postgraduate degree ceremony in the multiple function hall of the Library on Zhuhai Campus. The department leaders, supervisor representatives and the 2019 master’s graduates attended the ceremony. All undergraduate students of the Department witnessed the valuable moment.

The graduation ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. The Department’s Secretary Qu Qiongfei read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, all graduates replied “obey the instructions”. Associate Professor Qin Jiming announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees. The graduates went onto the stage in turn. Professor Chen Jianhong, Director of the Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai), presented the graduation booklets to the graduates.
Professor Chen Jianhong delivered a speech. He hoped the graduates would look into the future, pursue knowledge, and keep on exploring and making breakthroughs. Finally, he wished all graduates a bright future and hoped they would come back to visit the Department.

Professor Zhang Xianglong presented certificates to Feng Xiaoyi and Professor Chen Jianhong, the author and supervisor of the excellent master’s thesis.

The graduate representative Feng Xiaoyi gave a speech, saying that his study at the Department was fulfilling, and his dream was realized in the process of perseverance.
The First Affiliated Hospital
On the afternoon of June 25, the First Affiliated Hospital held the 2019 graduate commencement ceremony. Professor Yu Minbin, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Professor Xiao Haipeng, Vice President of SYSU and President of the First Affiliated Hospital; Dr. Luo Teng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital; Professor Dong Wenjie, Dean of the Graduate School of SYSU; experts from Hong Kong, Macao and Beijing, as well as academic leaders from the University and the Hospital expressed sincere wishes to more than 200 master’s and doctoral graduates.
Professor Kuang Ming, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital, read the graduation precept written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and announced the university’s decision of conferring master’s and doctoral degrees. The Hospital’s President Xiao Haipeng presented the degree certificate to every graduate and delivered a speech. He said that graduation was not an end but a new starting point, and the students would start a new journey in their lives. He hoped the graduates would live up to the trust, fulfill the commission, and make contributions to the “Healthy China” strategy and the realization of the Chinese dream.

The student representative Chen Peng gave a speech, saying that she would practice the university motto and the hospital motto, pursue scientific research, make outstanding achievements, and bring honor to the alma mater.

The supervisor representative Professor Zhang Nu gave a speech. He hoped the students would carry forward SYSU’s medical spirit, remain true to the original aspirations, strive forward and write a splendid chapter in the new era with efforts and perseverance.

Afterwards, Professor Kuang Ming led all graduates to recite the oath of a medical student.

The Sixth Affiliated Hospital
On the afternoon of June 25, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital held the 2019 postgraduate graduation ceremony and the degree ceremony in the multiple function lecture hall on the 5th floor of the No. 3 Building at the Hospital. Professor Lan Ping, Vice President of SYSU; Professor Wen Weiping, President of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital; Ms. Li Hanrong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital; supervisor representatives, the graduates and their friends and relatives, a total of more than 150 people witnessed this solemn and warm moment. The ceremony was presided over by the Hospital’s Vice President Huang Meijin.

Professor Wen Weiping conferred the degree to every master’s and doctoral graduate. The graduates in their degree gowns went onto the stage in turn. Turning the tassel, presenting the certificate, shaking hands, conferring the degree...with congratulations and expectations, these became the most beautiful pictures.

SYSU Vice President Lan Ping delivered a speech. He shared three keywords with the graduates: first, goal, graduation is a turning point in their life, and the students should set up new goals in their new journey; second, action, once they have the goal, they should put into practice; third, perseverance, the students should persevere in the crucial moments of their life to acquire happiness.

Professor Wen Weiping delivered a speech. He hoped the graduates would do their best to help the patients, keep in mind the university’s goal of talent cultivation, remain true to the original aspirations and strive forward.

The graduate representative Li Jie gave a speech. She expressed sincere gratitude to the University and the Hospital, saying that she would keep in mind the university motto and the hospital motto, work hard and try to become a “name card” of the Hospital.

The Hospital’s Vice President Huang Meijin led all graduates to recite the oath of a medical student. All teachers and students sang the university anthem.
