Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong was unveiled on October 14, 2024, which is the first comprehensive research institution that mainland universities have set up in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
On April 12, the institute hosted a researcher appointment ceremony, recruiting scholars across three interdisciplinary fields, including biomedical science, applied mathematics and humanities and social sciences.
As one of the newly appointed researchers, ecology scholar Prof. Tien Ming Lee from School of Ecology, shared his expectations of joining the institute and outlined his vision to harness the platform's cross-border advantages for climate science innovation.
“I am thrilled to participate in this venture because l see the possibility of expanding my research into a more global perspective by combining our research in China,” Lee said. “We hope to project it from Hong Kong to the rest of the world, collaborating with institutes and universities in Hong Kong, and we hope to provide innovative solutions to relative research.”
Prof. Tien Ming Lee, who joined SYSU in 2017, specializes in the areas of biodiversity conservation, climate change research as well as promoting low-carbon lifestyle in China and hopefully around the world.
