Executive Vice-President Xiao Haipeng attended APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting 2021

Executive Vice-President Xiao Haipeng attended the APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting 2021 “Universities Shaping the New Normal Together” on August 27th, 2021.

As a representative of APRU’s new members, Professor Xiao made a brief introduction of Sun Yat-sen University, and said that the university would be actively engaged in the platforms and events set up by APRU, so as to help spur global recovery and shore up solidarity with the other member universities.

At the meeting, Presidents of member universities shared their insights on the post-pandemic future for higher education and how their universities are responding to these challenges. Students from member universities reflected on their educational experience within APRU during the pandemic.

The meeting was hosted by APRU Chair, Chancellor of University of California, Los Angeles Gene D. Block, and Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Rocky S. Tuan. Delegates from all 60 APRU members across the Asia Pacific attended the meeting. Professor Lu Yutong, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, SYSU also attended.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) was established in 1997, aiming at cooperating on the development of education, research and innovation, and contributing to the economy, technology and culture of the Asia Pacific region. It now has a membership of 60 leading research universities from around the Pacific Rim, which includes UCLA, The University of Melbourne, Peking University and Tsinghua University.
