November 12 marked the 95th anniversary of the founding of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. SYSU held a celebration gala in the newly-built Gymnasium on Guangzhou South Campus. The gala was also live broadcast to the Gymnasium on Guangzhou East Campus and the Gymnasium on Zhuhai Campus. Secretary Chen Chunsheng, President Luo Jun and other members of the university leadership, as well as faculty, staff, students and alumni attended the event.
At the beginning of its establishment, Sun Yat-sen University attracted renowned academic masters to nurture pillars of the country. It maintained its determination to save the country through education, and passed on the traditions of revolution.
In the socialist construction period, Sun Yat-sen University became “People’s SYSU”. The teachers and students devoted themselves to national modernization construction and people’s welfare, writing a chapter of building the university rooted in China.

Entering the reform and opening-up period, Sun Yat-sen University took the lead in exploring, persisting and striving forward. The quality of talent cultivation, the level of academic research, the ability to serve the country and the local society, as well as the international influence reached new heights.
Entering the new era, to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation, Sun Yat-sen University is implementing the requirement of being rooted in China, connecting to the world, taking hold of the present, and facing the future. It has drawn a new blueprint for strategic development, put forward a new goal of talent cultivation, and comprehensively advanced the reform and opening-up. It is actively and steadily marching forward in the new journey of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
The gala ended with the chorus “Sing a Song of Praise to the Motherland” by all faculty, staff, students and alumni present, expressing our love for our great motherland.
