A delegation from Nepal Health Research Council visited SYSU

On the morning of June 21st, a 6-member delegation led by Prof. Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, Executive Chairperson of Nepal Health Research Council, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). President Luo Jun met with the guests in the SYSU Scholars Collection Hall at the Library on Guangzhou South Campus. The two sides held a discussion on cooperation and exchange. Vice President Xiao Haipeng and representatives from the Publicity Department, School of Public Health, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

President Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and introduced SYSU’s campus construction, advantageous disciplines and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance. President Luo Jun said that SYSU’s long-term partnership with the Nepal Health Research Council would benefit the people of countries along the Belt and Road, and respond to the general goal for China’s diplomacy “to build a community with a shared future for mankind” put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping. The cooperation implemented the goal of sharing Chinese experience, and improving the health of people in developing countries under the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. He hoped that the two sides would maintain friendly relations and improve the level of cooperation in global public health.
Prof. Anjani Kumar Jha and Dr. Meghnath Dhimal introduced the current exchange and collaboration with the Sun Yat-sen Global Health Institute. Prof. Anjani Kumar Jha said that the two sides have made good progress in the field of public health. Nepal Health Research Council attached great importance to the cooperation with SYSU, and hoped to promote deeper cooperation between the two sides.
After the meeting, the two sides held a signing ceremony for an university level MOU. President Luo Jun and Prof. Anjani Kumar Jha signed the MOU on behalf of the two universities.

After the meeting, Prof. Anjani Kumar Jha also visited the Sun Yat-sen Global Health Institute. The two sides held an in-depth discussion and reached consensus on cooperation in writing and publishing research papers based on Nepal’s national survey data. Meanwhile, the two sides will expand cooperation and conduct collaborative research in Nepal on primary-level healthcare and healthcare system.
The Nepal Health Research Council (NHCR) is a national apical body responsible for providing scientific study and quality health research in the country. The primary responsibility of the NHRC is to promote and coordinate health research with the objective of bringing about improvement in health status of people of Nepal. NHRC also acts as a national regulatory body for maintaining technical and ethical standards of health research within the country.
