On the afternoon of September 12, 2017, Professor Victor A. Sadovnichiy, Member of the Russian Academy of Science and Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), and Yuri A. Mazei, Vice Rector of MSU, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Professor Luo Jun, President of SYSU met with the guests in the VIP Room of Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus.
President Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to Rector Victor A. Sadovnichiy, and pointed out that the two universities have established long-term cooperative relations in Paleontology, Mechanics, Materials Science, Supercomputing, and Astrophysics, among other fields. In early September this year, an SYSU delegation led by President Luo Jun visited MSU and achieved substantial progress in bilateral cooperation. The two universities signed an agreement on scientific, educational and cultural cooperation, and reached new consensus on cooperation in medicine, economics, and other disciplines. President Luo Jun expressed his hope that the two universities would explore more cooperation in Mathematics and other fields.

Rector Victor A. Sadovnichiy agreed that the two universities should conduct cooperation in more areas. MSU has strengths in many disciplines such as Mathematics, Medicine, and the Sciences. In the future, the two universities will implement the signed agreement, promote scholar visits and student exchanges, and establish more collaborations. The development of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University will create better conditions for the cooperation between MSU and SYSU in Shenzhen.

SYSU Vice President Xiao Haipeng and representatives from SYSU’s School of Mathematics, School of Engineering, School of Physics, School of Life Sciences, School of International Studies, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange also attended the meeting.

Established in 1755, the Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest university in Russia, a world-class university with a long good tradition. Among its graduates, there are over 10 Nobel Prize winners, 6 Fields Medal winners and 1 Turing Award winner. MSU has more than 300 members of the Russian Academy of Science.
