SYSU signs agreement with Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government to further strengthen new type of strategic cooperation

On the afternoon of August 26, 2017, the signing ceremony of the agreement between Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government on further strengthening the new type of strategic cooperation was held in Guangzhou.
Mr. Ma Xingrui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province; Mr. Huang Ningsheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Mr. Zhang Hu, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Government and Director of the General Office of Guangdong Provincial Government; Mr. Jing Lihu, Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; leaders of Zhuhai City; Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU; and Prof. Sun Dongbai, Executive Vice President of SYSU, attended the signing ceremony.
Before the signing ceremony, Governor Ma Xingrui met with Secretary Chen Chunsheng and President Luo Jun. He hoped that SYSU would continue to be geared toward Guangdong’s economic and social development as well as the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, optimize disciplinary structure, output more high quality talents, especially in the fields of marine engineering, intelligent manufacturing, aeronautics and astronautics, and materials, providing talent and intellectual support for Guangdong’s implementation of President Xi Jinping’s instructions to the province.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng and President Luo Jun thanked the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Government for their strong support to SYSU, and expressed that SYSU would stick to the development path of becoming world class with Chinese characteristics, promote the University’s development in the spirit of reform and innovation, and make more contributions to Guandong’s economic and social development.
President Luo Jun pointed out that SYSU will bear in mind its mission and responsibilities, make contributions to Guangdong’s development through “output of high quality talents, output of high level science and technology achievements, and output of high level research institutes”. He stressed that since SYSU and Zhuhai City launched the new type of strategic cooperation, SYSU’s Zhuhai Campus has made major breakthroughs in various aspects, with increased educational and research funding, better disciplinary structure and talent team, and full-scale implementation of the new campus planning.
