The unveiling ceremony of Guangdong Institute of Innovation and Development held at SYSU

On the afternoon of October 17, 2016, the unveiling ceremony of Guangdong Institute of Innovation and Development, jointly established by Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission (GPDRC), was held in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus of SYSU.

Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Prof. Ma Jun, Vice President of SYSU, Prof. Wang Xuehua, Assistant President of SYSU, and Mr. He Ningka, Director of GPDRC, attended the unveiling ceremony. Secretary Chen Chunsheng and Director He Ningka jointly unveiled the plaque of Guangdong Institute of Innovation and Development. Vice President Ma Jun was appointed as Director of the Institute, and he received the certificate of appointment from Director He Ningka.

At the unveiling ceremony, Secretary Chen Chunsheng noted that the establishment of the Institute provides SYSU with a new opportunity to serve the society and the local economy. SYSU will cooperate with GPDRC to build the Institute into an important research base, give full play to its role as a think tank, and make more contribution to the sustained and healthy development of Guangdong’s economy and society.

Director He Ningka pointed out that the recent focus of the Institute is to set up the database of Guangdong’s innovation and development, compile the Blue Book of Guangdong’s Innovation in 2015, and conduct frontier research on innovation-driven development. The medium and long term goal of the Institute is to gather innovative talents, become an important think tank for the provincial government, and provide intellectual support for the provincial innovation-driven development strategy.

Vice President Ma Jun delivered a speech on behalf of the Institute. He said that the Institute has organized research teams in sociology, enterprise study, public policy and economics, and focused on summarizing the experience and making suggestions for Guangdong’s innovation and development, building innovation database and service platform, and organizing international conference on innovation-driven development. The Institute will integrate resources in related disciplines at SYSU to better play its role as a think tank for innovation and development.
