President Luo pointed out that Shenzhen Campus is under construction and will gradually take form in the next five years. He said that SYSU will hold the First International Young Scholars Shenzhen Forum in December, and will welcome participants from around the world. Taking advantage of new opportunities for development, SYSU will promote cooperation with Dutch universities in the fields including marine sciences and marine engineering.

Ms. Crompvoets noted that the cooperation between SYSU and Dutch universities could be traced back to 1989, covering the fields such as literature, medicine and chemical engineering. There are 13 universities in the Netherlands, all of which are ranked within the world’s top 200. The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou is eager to play a role in further facilitating closer cooperation and exchange between SYSU and universities in the Netherlands. Last year, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) signed an agreement with Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology to jointly fund scientists from the two countries to conduct innovative research and cooperation.
