Mr. Marc N. Casper, President & Chief Executive Officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Visits SYSU

On the afternoon of September 28, 2016, an 8-member delegation led by Mr. Marc N. Casper, President & Chief Executive Officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Yu Minbin, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus, accompanied by Prof. Luan Tiangang, Director of Instrumental Analysis & Research Center, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Prof. Yu Minbin extended a warm welcome to Mr. Casper, and introduced SYSU and its recent development. As one of China’s top 10 universities and the academic and scientific research hub in South China, SYSU attaches great importance to improving scientific research and innovation ability. SYSU has established good collaboration relationship with Thermo Fisher Scientific in the areas of instruments and equipment, joint construction of laboratory, student scholarships, etc. Prof. Yu Minbin hoped that Mr. Casper’s visit could further enhance partnership and deepen cooperation between the two sides.

Mr. Casper said that he was glad to visit SYSU and thanked the university for the warm reception. Thermo Fisher Scientific has been exploring the market in China for more than thirty years, and South China is a top priority for its development. SYSU is one of its important customers and partners in South China. SYSU’s development and achievements in recent years are impressive, and Thermo Fisher Scientific will continue to support SYSU in its future construction and development.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is a world leader in service science. Its products include analytical instruments, lab equipment, reagents, consumables, and software, etc. As an important partner, SYSU and Thermo Fisher Scientific has conducted many collaborations. Thermo Fisher Scientific and SYSU’s Instrumental Analysis & Research Center are on the progress of jointly establishing an application platform, and Thermo Fisher Scientific has set up a scholarship for excellent graduate students of the Master of Engineering program; Thermo Fisher Scientific, in cooperation with Mygene and The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, built a precision medicine and molecular diagnosis joint lab; in the Enactus university student social business projects, SYSU team sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific won the champion of the 2016 Enactus China National Competition.
