On the afternoon of September 9, 2016, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Haizhu District Government signed a cooperation framework agreement to jointly build SYSU International Innovation Valley Launch Area and Haizhu Wetland Ecological Science Park. SYSU attendees of the signing ceremony included President Luo Jun, Vice President Ma Jun, Assistant Presidents Cheng Huanwen, Yang Qinghua and Wang Xuehua; attendees from the Haizhu District included Secretary of the CPC Haizhu District Committee Yao Yisheng, District Mayor Li Haizhou, Deputy District Mayors Jiang Fan and Chen Jianbin, etc. Vice President Ma Jun and Deputy District Mayor Chen Jianbin signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides respectively.

At the signing ceremony, President Luo Jun thanked the CPC Haizhu District Committee and Haizhu District Government for the long-term support for SYSU. He said that SYSU has five campuses in three cities, and the project of “SYSU International Innovation Valley” is one of the development strategies of SYSU. He suggested that Haizhu District could provide favorable policies to attract researchers and university graduates, and create good atmosphere for high-tech innovation and startups, thus laying a solid foundation for the construction of SYSU International Innovation Valley. President Luo Jun stressed that the two sides would jointly build the Haizhu Wetland Ecological Science Park into a first-class comprehensive wetland park with multiple functions including ecological conservation, scientific research and popular science education. He hoped that the two sides would establish a regular communication mechanism and implement the relevant work.

Secretary Yao Yisheng expressed that SYSU Guangzhou South Campus is situated in Haizhu District, and the signing of this framework agreement is an implementation of the national innovation-driven development strategy and promotion of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. He asked all departments of Haizhu District to innovate management system and optimize approval procedures to implement the agreement.
