IFCEN Received China-France University Cooperation Excellent Project Award

On June 30, 2016, the China-France Higher Education Forum on "University and Engineering Education” was held in Paris. The Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (IFCEN) at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was awarded the prize of China-France University Cooperation Excellent Project. Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and French high-level officials presented the awards to the winners. Professor Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, received the award on behalf of SYSU.

Vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a speech entitled “Increasing higher education cooperation and building a brighter future for China and France”. She said that China-France cooperation in education has a long history, with engineering education being one of the most fruitful areas. She pointed out that as long as we both seize these opportunities, China-France cooperation in education and innovation will usher in a brilliant future. She believed that if we join hands, both of our countries will create a better future in engineering education and infuse the strategic partnership with new energy.

Professor Chen Chunsheng gave a report at the forum, sharing experience in talent cultivation with the forum attendees, and presenting SYSU’s achievements of China-France cooperation in education.

SYSU and the French FINUCI consortium jointly founded IFCEN in 2009 with strong support from the Chinese government and the French government, and began enrolling students in September 2010. After 6 years, IFCEN now has over 500 students, and has made rapid development and good progress in student training, R&D, and innovation management systems, among other fields. IFCEN has established an educational mode for local Sino-French engineers, has built a high level platform of international scientific research and cooperation, has established coopeartion with the French nuclear power enterprises, and has thus established a new model for the development of engineering disciplines and engineer training.

 

In 2015, IFCEN has obtained reputable accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Institution (CTI) in France, which means that qualifications of the graduates who acquire an engineer certificate from IFCEN will be acknowledged by the French government. IFCEN is recognized as a key demonstration project of educational reform by the Ministry of Education and a high quality educational project by the provincial government. The institute will continue to improve the educational mode for civil nuclear energy engineers that suits to China’s situations, and will become a model of cross boarder educational cooperation in nuclear energy in China.
