Prof. Russell Powell, Associate Provost for Global Engagement of Seattle University, visits SYSU

On May 3, 2016, Prof. Russell Powell, Associate Provost for Global Engagement of Seattle University, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guest in Zhongshan Building. Prof. Wu Peiguan, Deputy Dean of International School of Business & Finance, Prof. Zhang Liang, Deputy Dean of School of Law, Prof. Thierry Meynard from Department of Philosophy, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, were also present at the meeting.

Prof. Wei Minghai extended a warm welcome to Prof. Russell Powell on his first visit to SYSU, and briefly introduced the University. He stated that SYSU encourages undergraduate and postgraduate students to study abroad, and we wish to have more opportunities and channels to send our students to study in the United States. Meanwhile, he expressed hope to attract students from Seattle University to attend the international summer school program at SYSU.

Prof. Russell Powell thanked SYSU for the warm reception, and presented a brief introduction to Seattle University. He pointed out that Seattle University attaches importance to developing cooperative relations with Chinese universities, and has put SYSU as its first partner for cooperation in southern China. He expressed hope to explore cooperation in teaching and research between the two universities.

The two sides also exchanged opinions on the cooperation in the fields of business, finance, law and philosophy.

During the visit, Prof. Russell Powell also visited the School of Law, and discussed the possibility of cooperation in student exchange, master’s degree program and faculty visit.

It was founded nearly 125 years ago and has outstanding programs in a variety of subjects related to industry in the Seattle area such as engineering, computer science, marketing, finance, economics, accounting and IP law. It ranks 6th for its full range of undergraduate, master's and select doctoral degree programs.
