Prof. Ned Pankhurst, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor of Griffith University, visits SYSU

On April 25, 2016, a delegation led by Prof. Ned Pankhurst, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor of Griffith University, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the delegation also included Prof. Zhihong Xu, Director of Environmental Futures Research Institute, Prof. Huijun Zhao, Director of Centre for Clean Environment and Energy, and Mr. Sherman Xia, Regional Director (Greater China) of Griffith International.

Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus, accompanied by Prof. Qiu Rongliang, Dean of School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, among others.

Prof. Wei Minghai extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced SYSU’s campus characteristics, latest development and development goals. He pointed out that SYSU and Griffith University established cooperative relations in the 1980s and have maintained close ties. He expressed the hope that the two universities would conduct cooperation in faculty and student exchanges as well as research collaborations in multiple fields and at deeper levels.

Prof. Ned Pankhurst said that he was glad to visit SYSU again and briefly introduced Griffith University. He stated that the two universities, with many common grounds in multi-campus management, disciplinary strengths and development goals, will deepen mutual exchanges and cooperation. He remarked that the two universities have substantial cooperation in environmental science, and Griffith University will continue to support the project.

During the visit, the delegation also held a meeting with representatives from School of Environmental Science and Engineering. The two sides exchanged opinions on the forum to be held in Australia this July, and discussed how to promote faculty and student visits and expand channels of communication.
