On the morning of April 20, 2016, Mr. Hwang Soon-taik, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus, accompanied by representatives from the Student Affairs Office and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU.

President Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to Mr. Hwang Soon-taik, and introduced SYSU’s disciplinary strengths and campus construction. He pointed out that SYSU has attached importance to exchanges with Korea and set up the Institute of Korean Studies. Every year the University also holds a Korean Cultural Festival. In addition to cultural exchanges, President Luo Jun expressed the hope that the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou can promote substantial cooperation between SYSU and Korean universities and research institutes in academic and scientific research, especially engineering science and marine science.
Mr. Hwang Soon-taik stated that the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou has close relations with SYSU. Last year he attended the Korean Cultural Festival held on SYSU Zhuhai Campus, and the two sides had jointly organized international academic seminars. Mr. Hwang Soon-taik hoped that the two sides could co-organize more activities to promote China-Korean cultural and academic exchanges. The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou will keep close ties with SYSU and support the in-depth cooperation between SYSU and Korean universities.
The two sides also exchanged ideas on how to provide more help for the Korean students studying at SYSU.
