On the morning of March 23, 2016, a delegation led by Prof. Danie Visser, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Wei Minghai and Prof. Yan Guangmei, Vice Presidents of SYSU, met with the guests respectively, and introduced SYSU’s disciplinary development and campus construction. Prof. Danie Visser introduced UCT’s disciplines and international cooperation. The two parties exchanged opinions on cooperation between the two universities in multiple fields.

The UCT delegation visiting Prof. Yan Guangmei’s lab
On March 23, Prof. Danie Visser visited Sun Yat-sen Business School, School of Law, School of Sociology and Anthropology, Zhongshan School of Medicine and The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. On March 24, the UCT delegation visited the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou, and School of Marine Sciences on East Campus of SYSU. The two sides intended to conduct various forms of cooperation in faculty visit, student exchange, joint program, research collaboration and short-term courses.
SYSU and UCT jointly established a Confucius Institute in 2010, and signed an agreement for academic cooperation in 2015. This is the first visit of UCT leadership after the signing of the agreement. The two parties will expand fields of cooperation and promote academic exchanges between the two universities.
Members of the UCT delegation also included Prof. Evance Kalula, Director of International Academic Programmes Office and Confucius Institute, Prof. Francis Nyamnjoh from Department of Social Anthropology, and Prof. Rob Simmonds from Department of Computer Science. Prof. Ling Wenhua, Director of SYSU’s Office of International Cooperation & Exchange (OICE), and Ms. Gu Wenli, Deputy Director of OICE, also attended the meetings.
