A delegation from the University of Bristol visits SYSU

On the morning of March 22, 2016, a five-member delegation from the University of Bristol visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the delegation included Prof. Nishan Canagarajah, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, and Dr. Erik Lithander, Pro Vice-Chancellor for International and Student Recruitment of the University of Bristol.

Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests on Guangzhou South Campus, accompanied by Prof. Lu Yutong, Director of National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou, and Ms. Huang Ruimin, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of SYSU.

Prof. Wei Minghai extended a warm welcome to the guests, and introduced SYSU’s history, disciplinary development and campus construction, especially the international cooperation and exchange. He pointed out that SYSU has kept close and friendly cooperative relations with the universities in the UK, and he expressed the hope to promote more extensive and multilevel cooperation.

Prof. Nishan Canagarajah presented a general introduction to the University of Bristol. With strong teaching and research forces, the School of Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Sciences, and School of Engineering at the University of Bristol are ranked among the top in the UK. He hoped that the two universities can develop joint master’s and PhD programs. Besides, the University of Bristol has cooperated with the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou in the field of smart city. He hoped that through this visit, the two universities could establish cooperative relations in smart city, big data and medical sciences.

Established in 1876, the University of Bristol is one of the most popular and successful universities in the UK and was ranked within the top 40 universities in the world in the QS World University rankings 2015.
