On March 22, 2016, the opening ceremony for the “Exhibition from the China Artistic Photography Society — Through the Looking Glass” was held in the Library on the Guangzhou South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Mr. Yang Yuanxing, Chairman of the China Artistic Photography Society, Mr. Xiao Zhiheng, Former Executive Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, and Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, attended the opening ceremony, together with invited guests, photography lovers, faculty, staff, and students from SYSU and other universities.


Prof. Luo Jun expressed heartfelt thanks to the China Artistic Photography Society and Mr. Yang Yuanxing. He pointed out that SYSU students should have both ability and moral integrity, able to cultivate charisma and eager serve their country. The high art from the China Artistic Photography Society will help improve the cultural tastes and humanistic character of SYSU students, which form part of an important inner core of talent cultivation in universities.

Mr. Yang Yuanxing said that SYSU’s goal of talent cultivation and the general education at SYSU are consistent with the purpose of this exhibition. He thinks that the quality of cameras is not the only indicator for a good photo; what is most important is to have a soul that loves life and enjoys learning and recording. He hopes that the students can cherish the beautiful campus environment and the beautiful college years, improve their aesthetic sentiments and artistic qualities, and strive to become pillars of the society.


On behalf of the China Artistic Photography Society, Mr. Yang Yuanxing presented 120 works to SYSU, and in his own name he presented four of his works and a collection of his photography works Through the Looking Glass. After the opening ceremony, Mr. Yang Yuanxing, Mr. Xiao Zhiheng, and Prof. Luo Jun viewed the exhibition together with invited guests, photography lovers, faculty, staff, and students.


The photography exhibition will run until April 22, 2016, offering an opportunity for SYSU faculty, staff, and students to enjoy high art on campus.
