A delegation from University of Cincinnati visits SYSU

On March 8, 2016, Prof. Kenneth Petren, Dean of College of Arts & Sciences, University of Cincinnati (UC), and Dr. Tom L. Chung, Executive Director of China Initiatives, UC, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus, accompanied by Prof. Liu Lin, Dean of School of Geography & Planning, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Prof. Wei Minghai extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests and introduced SYSU and its recent development. He said that the two universities have established good cooperative relationship, and he expressed the hope to deepen cooperation in the future. Dr. Tom L. Chung introduced UC, and Prof. Kenneth Petren introduced its College of Arts & Sciences. They hoped that the two universities could have more opportunities for multi-level and multi-field cooperation. The two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation in environmental science, public health and communication.

During the visit, the UC guests also met with representatives from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and visited Guangzhou South Campus and the Center of Integrated Geographic Information Analysis.

The University of Cincinnati (UC) was founded in 1819 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the United States. It is ranked as one of America’s top 25 public research universities by the National Science Foundation. In 2008, SYSU’s School of Geography & Planning and UC’s College of Arts & Sciences started the 2+2 undergraduate joint program. Up till now, a total of 40 SYSU undergraduate students have been sent to study in UC.
