At the meeting, the representatives listened to the University Work Report delivered by President Luo Jun, the University Financial Work Report by Vice President Li Shanmin, the Report on Comprehensive Reforms with Personnel Reform as a Breakthrough Point by Vice President Wei Minghai, the Restructuring Plan for the Former Logistics Group and the Work Plan for Removing Unapproved Constructions on Campus by Assistant President Cheng Huanwen, the Report on SYSU’s Development Planning for the 13th Five-Year Plan by Assistant President Yang Qinghua, and the Work Report of SYSU Faculty and Staff Union & Faculty and Staff Representative Congress by Deputy Secretary Li Ping.
President Luo Jun reported on the achievements of the University’s work in 2015 in terms of talent cultivation, faculty development, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, campus construction and public service, internal structural reform, Party building and ideological and political construction. He also introduced the 2016 work plan from the two aspects of work focuses and livelihood projects. He pointed out that 2015 was the final year of the 12th Five-Year Plan, and the University’s overall considerations were to emancipate the mind, deepen consensus, take active measures to break the “ceiling” of the University’s development and remove key factors that restrict the University’s development, and take the initiative to make development planning for the 13th Five-Year Plan. He stressed that the current difficulties in the process of reform and development are temporary, and we should look at the University’s development in the longer period of 30, 50, or even 100 years. Standing on solid ground, taking the courage and making concerted efforts, we shall create a better future for our University.
Prof. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of the SYSU Party Committee and Chairman of the SYSU Faculty and Staff Union, reviewed the work of the SYSU Faculty and Staff Union & Faculty and Staff Representative Congress in 2015 from three aspects: participation in the University management and performing a supervisory function, bringing the hearts and minds of faculty and staff together to build harmonious campuses, and leading the work for designated poverty alleviation. Against the backdrop of the University’s comprehensive reforms, the Union has played an active role in smoothing communication channels, mobilizing resources to meet the various needs of faculty and staff, gathering consensus, and boosting morale to build a university community with a greater spiritual core, sense of belonging, and coherence. Looking ahead at 2016, the Union will center on the key tasks of developing the university, wholeheartedly serving the faculty and staff, building a harmonious campus atmosphere, and inspiring the faculty and staff to make contributions to the development of the University.
