SYSU President Luo Jun visited Taiwan

On June 4-6, 2015, at the invitation of Dr. Jing-Yang Jou, President of Central University (NCU) in Taiwan, Prof. Luo Jun, President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, and Dr. Huang Ruimin, Deputy Director of Office for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs of SYSU, went to Taiwan to attend NCU’s centennial celebration conference. They also visited Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Hsinchu, Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, and Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) in Kaohsiung.

SYSU President Luo Jun respectively met with NTHU President Hong Hocheng, NCKU President Huey-Jen Su and NSYSU President Hung-Duen Yang. SYSU will conduct research collaborations in nuclear engineering, supercomputing and Lingnan culture with NTHU and NCKU. SYSU and NSYSU have reached consensus to co-host Zhongshan Academic Forum, jointly set up academic exchange fund, and encourage joint research projects.

During the visit, President Luo Jun also went to Taipei to meet representatives of SYSU exchange students and alumni in Taiwan, and listened to their opinions and suggestions on the development of the university.

Since 2008, SYSU has signed student exchange agreements with 25 universities in Taiwan, sending nearly 200 students to study in Taiwan each year. Meanwhile, SYSU has also used platforms such as Shan Hai Forum to conduct research cooperation with universities in Taiwan. This visit will promote the exchange and cooperation to a new level.
