January 8th, 2015 witnessed the success of the 2nd session of CMU-SYSU Collaborative Innovation Research Center (CIRC) Review Meeting in SYSU-CMU Sunde International Joint Research Institute (JRI). The meeting was hosted by Prof. Jimmy Zhu, Director of CIRC. Mr. Huang Xizhong, Chief Executive of People’s Government of Shunde District; Prof. Gary Fedder, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at CMU; Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU; and Prof. Hong-Zhou Tan, Co-Director of JRI gave speeches as the opening of the meeting. The 12 projects presented in the day included CIRC’S latest research outcomes, for example, Algorithm and Hardware Co-Design for Ultra Low-Power Data Processing of ECG Biometrics, All-Magnetic Non-Volatile Memory Arrays Based on Four-Terminal mCell Devices, and etc. Based on some of these projects, China Telecom and China Southern Power Grid have reached preliminary cooperation intentions with JRI, further and deeper collaborations anticipated. The morning session ended with a speech by the Chairman of Guangdong WIOT Technology Group, while the afternoon session began with a talk delivered by Actions Semiconductor Corporation. The all-day meeting was ended with the presentation by Shenzhen Capital Group.

As a significant link of the three-party – Shunde District Government, SYSU, and CMU – cooperation, JRI will serve SYSU-CMU Joint Institute of Engineering (JIE) and CIRC as an industry-oriented base, and an important platform for technology development and transfer. JRI will continue effort in bringing more renowned professors and researchers from world-recognized universities like CMU into Shunde, and give more professional support for enterprise-university collaboration and for industrial incubation. Meanwhile, JRI looks forward to serving as an access for the local enterprises onto international stage and for the international technologies into Shunde.
