A Delegation from University of Toronto Scarborough visited SYSU

On November 6, a 4-member delegation led by Dr. Rick Halpern, Dean and Vice-Principal Academic of University of Toronto Scarborough, visited SYSU, accompanied by Mr. Zhou Guoping, Deputy Director of Division of International Exchange and Cooperation, Department of Education of Guangdong Province. Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests. Ms. Huang Ruimin, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU also attended the meeting.

Prof. Zhu Xiping extended a warm welcome to the guests, and introduced SYSU’s history, campuses, disciplinary strengths and international cooperation. SYSU has maintained a good cooperative relationship with Canadian universities and will deepen understanding and collaborations with University of Toronto.

Dr. Rick Halpern thanked SYSU for the warm reception and introduced the general situation of University of Toronto Scarborough and its collaborations with China.

The two sides exchanged ideas on faculty and student exchange as well as research cooperation in city planning, geography, economics and finance.

After the meeting, Dr. Rick Halpern gave a lecture titled “Foundation for American Economic Policy, 1932-1939”. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Xu Xinzhong, Dean of Lingnan College. Nearly 150 students from 6 universities attended the lecture.

The University of Toronto was founded in 1827. It now occupies three campuses. It is one of the world’s most famous research universities and is ranked No.1 in Canada. University of Toronto Scarborough was established in 1964.
