SYSU delegation attended the 4th Shan Hai Forum in Taiwan

On October 22-24, 2014, the SYSU delegation consisted of scholar representatives in nine fields attended the 4th Shan Hai Forum held in Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung (NSYSU). Prof. Hung-Duen Yang, President of NSYSU, Prof. Han Jiahuai, Vice President of Xiamen University, Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU (as a scholar representative of the field of mathematics), and nearly two hundred scholars and experts attended the forum. Entrusted by Prof. Xu Ningsheng, the then President of SYSU, Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, visited NSYSU and addressed the forum.
The 4th Shan Hai Forum
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Chen Chunsheng pointed out that collaborative innovation among universities has become a trend of development. The three universities, close in geographical location and interlinked in history, have natural advantages of cooperation. He believed that research collaborations among the three universities will help cultivate more world-class disciplines and talents to better serve the economic and social development. He was pleased to see many results have been achieved through joint efforts of scholars from the three universities in the past three years. He hoped that the three universities would further expand the fields of cooperation.
The award ceremony of best collaboration paper and collaborative research team was held at the forum. Prof. Wu Jiaxue, Prof. Bao Dinghua, Prof. Song Rong and Prof. Wang Jing from SYSU were commended at the forum.
During the forum, scholars from the three universities who specialize in the nine fields of marine environment, economic management, materials chemistry, physics, biomedical sciences, Taiwan studies, Linghai literature and culture, higher education research, as well as mathematics and computational science, had group discussions to share their latest research achievements.
The Shan Hai Forum is an academic forum co-initiated by Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Xiamen University and Sun Yat-sen University, and is hosted by the three universities in turn annually. The 1st Shan Hai Forum was held in Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung in December, 2011. The 3rd Shan Hai Forum was held in Sun Yat-sen University in November, 2013. This year Sun Yat-sen University has established the Shan Hai Forum Cooperation Projects Foundation to support academic exchanges and promote inter-university cooperation. Through joint evaluation by experts, the Foundation has decided to fund ten key cooperation projects.
