The 3rd SYSU “Fulan Award” Evaluation Meeting held

On August 19, the 3rd SYSU “Fulan Award” Evaluation Meeting was held in Fengsheng Hall on South Campus. Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong, President of the Open University of Hong Kong; Prof. SIN Chow Yiu, Vice President of Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education; Dr. Chan Man-hung, Managing Director of Jao Tsung-I Academy; Prof. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Prof. Huang Tianji, Prof. Chen Jiaqi and Prof. Chen Shuhui from SYSU acted as members of the Evaluation Committee. The meeting was chaired by Academician Lee Chack Fan, Professor of University of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of “Fulan Award”.

This year’s “Fulan Award” received 14 applications (7 from individuals and 7 from teams). Five winners (individuals or teams) have been selected and the award ceremony will be held during the university anniversary celebration.

After the meeting, the “Signing Ceremony of Donation from Alumni Mr. Chan Wan Ho and Mrs. Chan Lau Sau Yuen to Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of SYSU” was held. On behalf of the university, Deputy Secretary Li Ping presented a souvenir and certificate of acknowledgements to Mr. And Mrs. Chan. Academician Lee Chack Fan admired their contribution and dedication to education and hoped that SYSU students would learn gratitude in academic achievement.

Then, Vice President Li Shanmin signed the donation agreement with Mr. Chan Wan Ho; Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Mao Zongwan and Dean of School of Physics and Engineering Li Baojun signed relevant agreements with Mr. Chan Wan Ho respectively, witnessed by members of The 3rd “Fulan Award” Evaluation Committee as well as heads of Human Resources Department and Education Development & Alumni Affairs Office of SYSU.
Since 1995, Mr. Chan Wan Ho in Class 63 of Department of Chemistry and Mrs. Chan Lau Sau Yuen in Class 64 of Department of Physics, have been supporting the development of their alma mater, and have donated 15.52 million yuan in total. This year at the 90th anniversary of SYSU, Mr. And Mrs. Chan once again make the generous donation of 16.6 million yuan to support SYSU Fulan Award, and projects in School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering as well as School of Physics and Engineering.
