Xiaomi President Lin Bin revisited his alma mater for university-enterprise collaboration

Recently, Lin Bin, Co-founder and President of Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd., who studied in 1986-1990 at Department of Electronics, School of Information Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, revisited his alma mater. President Xu Ningsheng met with alumnus Lin Bin.

President Xu Ningsheng invited alumnus Lin Bin to give a speech at this year’s graduation ceremony. Lin Bin gladly accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude for the alma mater and his hope to make contributions to the alma mater. The two sides also talked about other relevant issues.

Earlier, Lin Bin had a meeting with leaders and teacher representatives from School of Information Science and Technology, including Dean Lai Jianhuang, Secretary Xie Manhua, Deputy Dean Long Yunliang, Deputy Secretary Chen Jiancun, Assistant Dean Zhang Shengguo, and Head of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Ni Jiangqun. Qiu Haiming, who supervised Lin Bin’s graduation thesis, and the student counselor Hu Haitao also attended the meeting.

Dean Lai Jianhuang introduced the recent development of School of Information Science and Technology. Lin Bin introduced the history of Xiaomi, shared his personal experience of entrepreneurship, and demonstrated the latest products of Xiaomi. The two sides reached consensus on talent training and industry-university-research collaboration, and initial agreement on further cooperation. Alumnus Lin Bin and the teachers also recalled the happy moments at Honglok Campus.

During the visit, the School of Information Science and Technology also invited Lin Bin to be an advisor to the alumni association of the School. Dean Lai Jianhuang and Secretary Xie Manhua presented him the certificate of appointment.

Lin Bin graduated from Sun Yat-sen University and obtained electronic engineering degree in 1990. He obtained his computer science master degree of Drexel University in 1992. Then he joined Microsoft and made a successful career as Project Leader Engineer, Senior Develop Manager of MSRA, Engineering Director of MSRA. He also participated in the R&D of products including Windows Vista and IE8. Lin Bin joined Google in 2006 as Vice President of Google China Institute of Engineering and Engineering Director of Google Global. He was responsible for building and managing Google China’s Mobile Search and the Android App Localization teams. In 2010, Lin Bin served as the Co-founder and President of Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd..
