On June 19-23, 2017, the first “English Project of Core Stomatology Course” was held at Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University. Professor Anders Nattestad, Associate Professor Raymond Scott, Associate Professor Eugene LaBarre and Adjunct Assistant Professor Adrian Vogt from Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific visited Guanghua School of Stomatology and gave lectures for the program.

On the morning of June 19, the opening ceremony of the program was held. Professor Cheng Bin, Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology, presented certificates of gratitude to the four professors.
After the ceremony, the four professors gave lectures to nearly 90 fourth grade undergraduate students in two days. The contents included Cariology and Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics and Orthodontics. Each professor taught 4 class hours a day, with 32 class hours in total.
On June 21-22, the four professors gave open academic lectures to nearly 100 internships, residents and faculty members. The lecture topics were “Improving Endodontic skills acquisition in novice dental students” by Associate Professor Raymond Scott, “Your Oral Surgery case did not go so well?–Fix it & prevent it from happening again” by Professor Anders Nattestad, “Critical thinking and inter-disciplinary integration in prosthodontics” by Associate Professor Eugene LaBarre, and “Updates on trends and technologies in orthodontics” by Adjunct Assistant Professor Adrian Vogt.
In addition to theoretical teaching and open lectures, they also visited clinics of Guanghua School of Stomatology, and carried out clinical demonstration, consultation, as well as case discussion.
Through this program, the clinical English and critical thinking of the students were improved. Teachers of the two schools also exchanged their views on dental curriculum, dental education skills and technology.
The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry of University of the Pacific is a renowned institution of higher learning in the United States. In 2007, Guanghua School of Stomatology and Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry signed an agreement of cooperation. Professor Patrick Ferrillo, former dean of Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, was appointed as a visiting professor of Guanghua School of Stomatology. In 2016, Guanghua School of Stomatology selected Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry as its partner school for the “English Project of Core Stomatology Course”. In March 2017, a delegation from Guanghua School of Stomatology paid a visit to Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry to discuss details of the program.
