On September 28, 2016, the 14th SYSU Clinical Research Salon was held in the Reception Room on Guangazhou North Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Hosted by Associate Professor Xu Li from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC), the salon invited Prof. Shi Ming, recipient of the 2016 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. It attracted around 100 doctors, teachers as well as medical students from the university and its affiliated hospitals.
Prof. Shi Ming is the chief physician and doctoral supervisor of hematology at SYSUCC. He is also on the editorial boards of several academic journals. Prof. Shi has mainly focused on researches of liver cancer. He has been engaged in improving the curative effects by reducing the resection extends and improving the method of liver segment. During the salon, Prof. Shi shared his understandings of clinical researches as well as his own research experiences. Reviewing several of his representative clinical researches, Prof. Shi analyzed their strengths and drawbacks during research design or research implementation. As such, a young scholar’s growth trajectory is presented through his vivid presentation. In the end, Prof. Shi not only provided precious advice to young researchers and students, but also encouraged them to conduct clinical researches with their feet on the ground and eventually produce high quality research outcomes.

SYSU Clinical Research Salon is an academic activity initiated by the visiting fellows of the SYSU-JHU Collaboration Program. They hope that the salon can bring the advanced study method and positive research atmosphere to SYSU and serve as a bridge to connect all the faculty members who are interested in clinical research.
